The Sun is the most important thing! No life, no energy, no existence would ever be possible without it.
Have you ever met the rising sun? It is a rite filling a man with vigour and vitality. Many religions as well as ancient teachings have practiced it. The sun was worshipped by our ancestors, who attached great significance to it. Pavel Mitkov's paintings in the MEET THE SUN category are filled with sunshine, and are deeply emotional. Take a look at flowers meeting the rising sun! Take a look at a rooster singing: "Wake up! The sun is up!" Take a look at the joy inspired by its existence.
There are two suns in some of the artist's works. Is it a form of dichotomy, or does he just crave more sunshine in this world? Here's his answer:
"In fact, the idea to have two suns dawned on me after I was commissioned to make a painting for Pope Benedict XVI. I chose an icon of Saints Cyril and Methodius as the subject for the work. This was when it first occurred to me to paint two suns, since the holy brothers are the symbol of unity and unification for the common cause of the mankind. Separately as each of them shines, they have one common lifework."
The most fascinating period is from 2012 on. Mitkov highlights two particular dates in it: 21.12.2012, supposedly the end of the world, and 10.02.2013, the beginning of the Age of Aquarius and the Chinese New Year. According to the artist, that was the time when the mankind chose its future 2000-year cycle and the good prevailed. Always positive, always filled with a lot of energy, Mitkov turned his latest period into a life mission. It is not about just composing paintings but rather about creating and putting enormous love into canvases. The painter believes a painting can make a real difference in a man’s life.
