50 x 60 cm, Oil on canvas
Mystique is one of Pavel Mitkov's favourite themes. The artist seeks a touch of mystique everywhere - in the night-time, in the streets of Paris, in the image of Don Quixote, musical instruments and the sea. He opens mystical gates revealing a different perspective of the world - one that is deeply encoded in the stereotypes of time.
Mystique is a state of the spirit touching the unknown and coming to know its own self as well as the world.
And it takes a great deal of courage, as the unknown has always awed people filling them with fear.
Mitkov adeptly handles familiar forms placing them in a mystical environment. He bets on mystique more than any other theme because, as he puts it, that is more instructional for an artist than anything else and is like a "bungee jump into the unknown." And the cord one is connected to, he says, is the only link back to reality.
You can check up for yourself how thin the cord he uses in this category really is.
The most fascinating period is from 2012 on. Mitkov highlights two particular dates in it: 21.12.2012, supposedly the end of the world, and 10.02.2013, the beginning of the Age of Aquarius and the Chinese New Year. According to the artist, that was the time when the mankind chose its future 2000-year cycle and the good prevailed. Always positive, always filled with a lot of energy, Mitkov turned his latest period into a life mission. It is not about just composing paintings but rather about creating and putting enormous love into canvases. The painter believes a painting can make a real difference in a man’s life.
